The 19th Annual Ron White Shoe Drive

We are what you would call shoe enthusiasts (cult-like worshippers is more like it), so when Mrs. R was given the opportunity to see Canada’s very own ShoeRu, Ron White, kick-off the 19th Annual Ron White Shoe Drive, we couldn’t say no. Every year the shoe drive partners with charities in the GTA to collect gently worn shoes and boots for men, women and children. All collected shoes are distributed and donated to those in need through the participating charities.

This year’s charities are Dress for Success Toronto, New Circles, Halton Women’s Place and CAMH. All representatives from the organizations were in attendance for the kick-off along with international fashion icon Jeanne Beker, Canada’s first supermodel Monika Schnarre, radio personality Billie Holiday and Toronto’s newest Mayor, John Tory.

The shoe drive, which has collected 35,000 shoes to-date, showcases celebrity donations and encourages Canadians to follow in the footsteps of their favourite celebrity. Perhaps the world’s most famous Canadian, Celine Dion, along with Rachel McAdams, Hilary Duff and Matt Damon have all donated their shoes to the cause.

Having taken place on one of the coldest days yet, the shoe drive brings attention to the need for basic necessities. Something as simple as winter boots can mean survival in these harsh Canadian winters, but a pair of donated pumps to wear at an interview could be the launching pad for a disadvantaged woman trying to gain economic independence. We did our part here at Mrs. R and have donated a few pairs of Ron White pumps from seasons past and although it was hard to let them go, they might bring as much happiness to someone else as they did to us.

Donations are accepted at all Ron White locations and are being collected until January 31.   As a thank you, donors receive $25 towards a future purchase.
