  • Let’s start by saying, we here at Mrs. R Mag may not be optimistic every moment of everyday but we know it’s positive energy that gets us through life in one piece. “Optimism is a powerful and pragmatic strategy for accomplishing goals and living a fulfilling life. By acknowledging obstacles and opportunities - but focusing on the opportunities - optimism enables us to explore the world with open arms and an eye towards solutions, progress and growth. It also makes life a hell of a lot more fun,” write brothers John and Bert Jacobs, co-founders of Boston-based brand, Life is Good. What started as a lifestyle apparel brand in 1995, Life is Good has landed in Canada with their tees, sweats and more bearing optimistic words and slogans, as well as their debut book aptly titled, “Life is Good – The Book”, published by National Geographic. When a brand is all about optimism, it’s no surprise that they have a foundation that’s dedicated to helping kids in need. Ten percent of Life is Good’s annual profit goes towards their kids foundation which helps to positively impact the quality of care delivered to the most vulnerable children in the US, Haiti, and now Toronto too (their first Canadian partner is Toronto’s own Redwood Shelter). What struck us as we learned more about Life is Good and prepared to meet founder John Jacobs for the Canadian launch, was how people have responded to the message. As detailed in their book, the brand has received an astounding number of letters from the people they have inspired. These letters and stories, referred to as “fuel”, are referenced in the book for helping shape the brand to what they are today. With life’s daily challenges always ahead, we asked John Jacobs to suggest 3 main superpowers (a theme throughout the book) to help us focus on the good in our lives. “GRATITUDE, SIMPLICITY and OPENNESS,” were his virtues and he also left us with words of wisdom, “Time is the most valuable thing you have, protect it with your life because it is your life.” Here’s thanks to one positive, baby-step forward.
