Is the allure of Cinderella too strong to resist for those us who grew up with her?
Disney's original Cinderella arrived in 1950 - a once-upon-a-time and place fully prepared to believe in the pauper to princess fairy tale. How today's audiences will take to this fresh spin on the Cinderella story only the box office can tell. The new version is live-action and directed by Kenneth Branagh. It's got a sizzling cast - who can resist Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter hamming it up as the stepmother and godmother, respectively? In beautiful costumes to boot. Game of Thrones fans will be happy to see Richard Madden (aka Robb Stark) as the handsome prince. And our heroine (Lily James of Downton Abbey) appears to have a bit of modern-day backbone. No matter what changes, it's still the same old story we already know. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Cinderella arrives in theatres today. Photos: Disney Studios
